How to report bullying and get help

Welcome back to the Think B4 U Type Blog!

Last week we identified how bullying affects school life and what parents can do.

In this blog post, we will be discussing how to report bullying and how to get help for bullying online

How to report bullying

The (UK Government website) provides great details for their advice on how to handle and report bullying online (and in-person). They state, 'Anyone can make a complaint to the police about bullying but it’s usually a good idea to speak to your school first.' Furthermore, they say, 'If you’re reporting cyberbullying, keep a record of the date and time of the calls, emails or texts - don’t delete any messages you receive.' Additionally, they warn you to phone 999 if you or someone else is in immediate danger. This is very important. Therefore, the Government issued advice is as follows:

1. Speak to your school first
2. If you cannot speak to your school, speak to the police
3. If you're reporting cyberbullying, keep a record of any harassing calls, emails, or texts
4. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, go straight to the police (call 999)

You should always report bullying to your school in the first place, or somebody else that you trust outside of school (for example, an adult in a club that you attend). If the bullying involves a crime, then you should contact the police.

Your school and/ or the police will be able to help you with any concerns that you have.

How to get help for bullying online

The (UK Government website) also provides links to helpful organisations that can help provide you with help and support if you are being bullied. This list includes:
You can phone Childline for free advice on 0800 1111. Also, on their website, they provide helpful advice on your rights, how to tell a trusted adult that you are being bullied and, can educate you on different types of bullying and what the law is.

The Anti-Bullying Alliance provides free CPD-certified anti-bullying training for anyone that works with young people and children. This is an amazing resource for adults who want to help children who are at risk of being bullied and in particular, cyber-bullying online.

Bullying UK has a helpful service where you can filter your particular problem in order to be directed to the correct help that you may need. And, similarly to Childline, they have a free contact number where you can get support and advice: 0808 800 2222

If you are struggling with being bullied, do not hesitate to speak to a trusted adult or to get in contact with any of these free services. You are not alone!
